Our speaker

Dr Wijesinha is a Family Physician, an Associate Professor at the Department of General Practice at Monash University and a Major in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps.

He graduated from the University of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, completed a research degree as a Commonwealth scholar at Oxford University in England and trained as a paediatric surgeon in Sri Lanka and the UK. For 12 years he served as a surgeon in the Sri Lankan Army reserve and a paediatric surgeon in Sri Lanka and Hong Kong before moving to Australia in 1996 and retraining as a family physician.

Married to Dr Chitra Wijesinha and father of two children Shivantha and Menaka, he now lives in Melbourne.
